Sydney Contemporary has recently announced a substantial expansion to its WORKS ON PAPER sector, with six heavy hitter galleries to join the section for the first time this year. The WORKS ON PAPER section – curated by Akky van Ogtrop, President of Print Council of Australia – will now have 26 galleries presenting, each exhibiting works by major artists that are perfect for new and established collectors alike.

The new kids on the PAPER block include Warrane/Sydney and Singapore’s Ames Yavuz, Warrane/Sydney’s Nanda\Hobbs, N.Smith Gallery, Utopia Art Sydney, and Vermillion Art, as well as Narrm/Melbourne’s Australian Print Workshop. Works by artists including Emily Kame Kngwarreye, Chuck Close, Abdul Abdullah, Zico Albaiquni, Cybele Cox, Sarah Drinan, Solomon Kammer, Tom Polo, Caroline Rothwell, Manit Sriwanichpoom, David Fairbairn, Danie Mellor, Ah Xian, Fang Lijun, Chen Wenling and Geng Xue will all be available.

New Fair Director Zoe Paulsen has said that “As Australia’s premier art fair, we provide the most concentrated week of art sales annually in Australia, and take our role of further developing and supporting the sector seriously. With this in mind, we feel it is the right time to expand our dedicated WORKS ON PAPER sector, which has grown from strength to strength under the curation of Akky van Ogtrop”.

“Works on paper are an exciting and critical part of our visual arts culture, and are featured in major collections around the world, including making up nearly 90% of the Tate Collection in the UK. They are both a great starting point for new art buyers and a way for seasoned collectors to add diversity to their collections”.

Other updates include program announcements, with HOSSEI, a multidisciplinary artist with Persian, Turkish, and Russian ancestry, set to present two performances of his work ESSSENSSSE. There will also be music performances by harpist Jake Meadows, three-piece jazz ensemble the Mike Nock Trio, and jazz from musicians Mike Nock, Jonathan Zwartz and Hamish Stuart.

The fair will run 5 – 8 September. For more information and a full list of performances and presentations, head to the fair’s website here.
