Lesley Dumbrell was born in Melbourne in 1941 and after studies at RMIT in the late 1950s and teaching at Prahran Tech in the late 1960s she began to paint full time. In the 60 years since she has established herself as one of Australia’s most dedicated and skilled abstract artists.
This exhibition will encompass the artist’s hard-edged works of the 1960s, the optical paintings of the 1970s, the “shape” paintings of the 1980s, and both the stricter and more undulating line works of the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s which were produced either in Bangkok, Thailand or in Euroa, Victoria where she maintains homes and studios to this day.
