The vibrant and luminous paintings by artist Nellie Ngampa Coulthard truly embody the heart and soul of the desert; her distinctive and intricate painting technique rendered in radiant hues of yellow, orange, red and pink beautifully offset with white and cream to reflect the luminous and rich landscape of the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands of South Australia. Her unique depiction of the native flora, in particular the yellow Acacia Murrayana Wattle, that surrounds the Country of the artist’s childhood in the far eastern desert near Oodnadatta conveys a deep sentimentality associated with Coulthard’s art, alluding to her memories as a young girl, surrounded by the beautiful and diverse flora of the central and eastern deserts.
