Sarah CrowEST’s forthcoming exhibition at LON, Painting RE-UP: construction and deliquescence, runs concurrent with, and extends the ideas outlined in her forthcoming NGV commission, RE-UP: Strap-on Paintings, which is part of Melbourne Now 2023.
Expanding the territory of her iconic #straponpaintings project, which uses artist’s Belgian linen, screen printing and acrylic to create wearable paintings, CrowEST challenges perceived notions of value whilst engaging with feminist histories. Previous iterations of the project have taken place in biennales and key exhibitions across the country including at; Heide, The Ian Potter Museum, Tarra Warra and Gertrude Contemporary. The success of this body of work led to CrowEST being included in Vitamin T, published by Phaidon, which is largely considered the definitive survey of international textile practices. This is an exceptional achievement, with only two Australian artists featuring in the publication.
Opening Event: Wednesday March 29, 6 – 8pm.
