Established in 1887, Bendigo Art Gallery is one of the oldest and largest regional galleries in Australia. The permanent collection is extensive and varied, and features Australian painting, sculpture, ceramics, decorative arts, photography, and works on paper from the 19th century to the present day. The gallery is also in possession of important works of British and European paintings, sculpture and decorative arts from the 19th century. Highlights of the contemporary collection include works by Patricia Piccinini, Bill Henson, Dale Frank, Jan Nelson, Fiona Hall, Emily Kame Kngwarreye, Kit Webster and Benjamin Armstrong. Visitors can expect a number of large-scale exhibitions in addition to the gallery’s formidable permanent collection.
