The National Portrait Gallery is about the people of Australia. It is the place we go to know who we are as a nation and as individuals. It is where we can explore the notion of identity, understand the lives of others, and gain new perspective on ourselves.

Look into the eyes of artists, musicians, entertainers, politicians, athletes and royalty who’ve all shaped the nation. Those we variously revere, revile or desire; those we are most inspired, moved, perplexed or intrigued by; those who best illuminate historical experience and circumstance; and all of the other past or present-day companions whose lives might cause us to reflect on or understand our own. With a diverse range of onsite, virtual and travelling exhibitions and programs, visit old friends and new faces, and explore our ongoing collective story brought to life through some of Australia’s extraordinary artists.

Members receive members-only exhibition previews and viewings, invitations to special events– such as exclusive dinners and lunches with prominent speakers, lectures, workshops, and bus trips, discounted tickets for paid exhibitions, lectures and workshops, 10% off at the gallery’s cafe and store.
