Perc Tucker Regional Gallery

Townsville City Galleries operates two premier regional art gallery spaces, Perc Tucker Regional Gallery in the city’s CBD, and Pinnacles Gallery located within the Riverway Arts Centre. These venues host a selection of exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, and other events, as well as public art displays.

The City of Townsville Art Collection (COTAC) holds 4,000 artworks and offers compelling narratives and ideas of life in the tropics, revealing the individuals and forces that have shaped Townsville’s history. The multicultural collection focuses on art from North Queensland and the Pacific region, touching on Indigenous heritage, colonial settlement, the Townsville port and World War II, as well as contemporary topics.

The City of Townsville Art in Public spaces Collection holds 256 artworks. Townsville City Council’s street art collection extends art experiences outside Council’s buildings to activate community spaces, grow audiences and foster collaborative relationships. Townsville’s city streets, laneways, and alleyways showcase a range of vibrant and innovative street art murals by local and internationally renowned artists such as ROA, HAHA, Claire Foxton, Nicky Bidju Pryor, Kennie Deaner and The RUN Collective.

AWARDS

Townsville City Galleries hosts five premier North Queensland arts prizes of local and national significance. The award exhibitions include the North Queensland Ceramic Awards, Ephemera and three Percival Portrait Prizes: the Percival Portrait Painting Prize, the Percival Photographic Portrait Prize and the Percival Animal Portrait Prize. These biennale awards offer a sizeable prize pool of $66,0000, as well as the opportunity to be acquired into the City of Townsville Art Collection.
