The National Artist’s Self-Portrait prize is a biennial Australian photography and portraiture prize. Entry is on an invite only basis, with the winning artwork acquired by UQ museum and the winner taking home $50,000. Following the success of the inaugural prize in 2007, the National Artists’ Self-Portrait Prize returned to the UQ Art Museum in 2009 and has been intrinsically linked to the institution since the collaboration. Featuring a selection of Australia’s most engaging contemporary artists working across a variety of media, this biennial exhibition focuses on a unique aspect of portraiture, that of the artists themselves.
