The Percivals Portrait Prize 2024

Medium / category: Painting and photography.

Requirements:
The Percival Portrait Painting Prize is open to artworks that are 2D portraits of a human subject painted from life, with the subject known to the artist, aware of the artist’s intention and having at least one live sitting with the artist.

The Percival Photographic Portrait Prize is open to all forms of still photography and must be
a 2D portrait of a human subject.

The Percival Animal Portrait Prize is open to artworks of animals that are of 2D media, including oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastels, charcoal, ink, mixed media, and still photography.

Eligibility: Entry is open to all local, interstate and international artists.

Associated institutions: Perc Tucker Regional Gallery, Townsville City Council.

Exhibition dates: From 22 June to 1 September 2024 at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery.

Having begun in 2007, The Percivals is an open competition for artists. While showcasing the outstanding and innovative work currently being produced by Australian artists, the competitions have also given many emerging artists an opportunity to engage with portraiture and share their expressions of themselves and those close to them.

The Percivals are made up of The Percival Portrait Painting Prize, Percival Photographic Portrait Prize, and the Percival Animal Portrait Prize.

What you need to know

Entry is open to all local, interstate and international artists. Artworks must be created between June 2022 – June 2024 to be eligible for submission. Additional size and medium restrictions apply for each prize, which can be found here for Painting, here for Photographic, and here for Animal.
