The UniSA Jeffrey Smart Commission is a new commission established in 2022 to provide opportunities for Australian arts practitioners to develop a major new work, or body of works, culminating in an exhibition at the Samstag Museum of Art.
The Commission is awarded by the University of South Australia through its Samstag Museum of Art in recognition of the late Jeffrey Smart, an alumnus of the South Australian School of Art.
Awards
The 2024 Commission will award up to $90,000 to the recipient, and will take the form of a monetary award paid directly to the recipient in Australian dollars, over three years and in three instalments.
Additional to the Commission fee, Samstag Museum of Art will cover the costs of curatorial development, management, promotion, and presentation of the Commission in an exhibition at Samstag up to a value of $50,000 in kind.
Judges
Expressions of interest will be reviewed by the Samstag Museum of Art Director and Curatorial staff, with a recommendation made to the Samstag Board.
Awarding of the Commission will be endorsed by the Samstag Board which includes Aboriginal and arts community representation, and the Executive Dean, UniSA Creative (ex officio).
