Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship
Medium / category: All mediums, submission must include at least 10 works, at least 5 of which are paintings
Eligibility: Australian artists aged between 20 and 30
Associated institution: Art Gallery of New South Wales
The Brett Whiteley Studio, administered by the Art Gallery of New South Wales, awards an annual travelling art scholarship to artists aged between 20 and 30 with an established body of work. Mrs Beryl Whiteley (1917–2010) allocated funds for the scholarship in memory of her late son, Brett Whiteley, both to encourage excellence in painting and to offer young artists career development opportunities.
For the 2023 scholarship, the Studio will offer two types of residencies under the one application: a residency at the Cité internationale des arts, Paris, for one artist, and a two-week residency at Shark Island Kangaroo Valley for five artists. The scholarship is judged by an artist selected by Studio and Art Gallery staff. The scholarship recipients grant the Studio and Art Gallery permission to display the work(s) in an exhibition for the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship at the Studio or such other venue as the Studio and Art Gallery may in their absolute discretion determine.
