Collie Art Gallery’s $50,000 Collie Art Prize is part of the coal mining town’s push to diversify its economy into tourism and other industries. Each year a theme is selected for the applicants to adhere to. In 2022 the theme was ‘identity.’ The winners and runner ups are announced at a gala event. Significant operational funding has been forthcoming from the Coal Miners’ Welfare Board of Collie, Synergy and a Packers’ Prize is being funded by donations from the Hon Jodie Hanns, MLA, and Hon Dr Steve Thomas MLC. Synergy is also sponsoring a youth section entitled Kid-Entity which will display alongside the major event.

The Different Award Categories

The awards include the $50,000 acquisitive first prize and the two $5,000 non-acquisitive prizes with a complimentary exhibition at the Collie Art Gallery. A $1,000 People’s choice award is also chosen by exhibition visitors and it awarded at the conclusion of the exhibition.
